Overview
FSReader is an assistive technology designed to provide access to accessible digital books and publications, including DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) books.
It allows users to read and navigate accessible digital content using features such as text-to-speech and structured navigation. FSReader can help students who have difficulty accessing traditional printed materials.
Some of the features include:
- DAISY Book Support – Opens and reads compatible DAISY digital books.
- Text-to-Speech – Reads digital content aloud.
- Structured Navigation – Allows users to navigate through sections, headings, pages, and other parts of an accessible book.
- Audio and Text Synchronization – Allows users to follow the text while listening to the corresponding audio when supported by the DAISY book.
- Navigation Controls – Provides options for moving through and locating content within a digital book.
- Reading Controls – Allows users to control reading, such as starting, pausing, and navigating through content.
Available To
FSReader is available on Fleming College computers where the software has been installed and licensed.
It can support students who are blind, have low vision, or have print disabilities and require accessible digital formats.
Availability may vary depending on the computer, location, or Fleming College accessibility arrangements.
Getting Started
- Locate and open FSReader on a Fleming College computer where it is installed.
- Open a compatible DAISY book or accessible digital publication.
- Use the FSReader controls to begin reading or listening to the content.
- Use the navigation controls to move between sections, headings, pages, or other available elements.
- Adjust the reading and audio settings to suit your needs.
