Purpose
Email banners are used to alert users when they receive emails from potentially unknown senders. This helps in identifying potential phishing attempts and enhances email security.
Overview
Fleming has configured a generic external banner for all incoming email that is not from an internal @flemingcollege.ca email address. This banner serves as a visual indicator, such as a text banner at the top of the email, informing the recipient that the email originated from outside the organization.
Fleming has also configured context-aware banners often referred to as 'Safety Tips'. These banners serve as a visual indicator, such as a text banner at the top of the email, to help recipients spot potentially risky or suspicious email before they interact with them.
Both banners help identify fraud attempts and raise caution when viewing emails, files and links.
Benefits of Email Banners
- Enhanced Security: Helps users quickly identify emails from external sources or that may be potentially risky, reducing the risk of phishing and other email-based attacks.
- User Awareness: Increases awareness among users about the origin of the emails they receive.
- Compliance: Assists in meeting organizational policies and compliance requirements regarding email security.
Exemptions
Some services and vendors send emails on behalf of Fleming College and exempt from banners, also known as trusted. A few examples are:
