Move the Microsoft Authenticator App to Your New Phone

Tags MFA

Overview

Considered the most secure MFA sign-in method, the Microsoft Authenticator app gives you access to the self-serve password reset option as well as a simple process for switching phones. From within the app, simply use the backup option on your old phone and then use the recover option on your new phone. Your saved account credentials in the MS Authenticator app will be transferred from your old phone to your new phone.

Noteworthy Points

  • Transfers cannot occur from Android to iPhone, or vice versa. In these cases, you will have to manually set up your saved account credentials on your new phone.
  • Backups involve using a personal account: a Microsoft account for Android phones or an Apple account for iPhones. You can create a free account, if needed.
  • Obsolete MFA sign-in methods should be removed. If you are no longer using your old phone, remove it as an MFA sign-in method from the security info page of your Fleming account. Sign in to your Fleming Microsoft account and then click on this link.

Troubleshooting

If the process is unsuccessful, you will need to either email itsupport@flemingcollege.ca or come to the IT service desk located in the LRC. Please have photo id ready if you are coming to the desk to have your app reset.
