How to Enable/Disable a Personal Hotspot (Android/iOS)

Overview

Step-by-step guide on how to turn on the Personal Hotspot on your Android device and iOS device. Please note that hotspot enabled cell phones are to be used for official Fleming College business only. 

How to turn on the hotspot

iOS/iPhone

Step 1: Turn on your phone's hotspot
  1. Go to SettingsAnd thenPersonal Hotspot
  2. Toggle the slider next to Allow Others to Join.
Step 2: Connect another device to your phone's hotspot

On the device that you want to connect, go to the WiFi settings and look for your iPhone in the list. Then click the Wi-Fi network to join. If asked, enter the password for your Personal Hotspot.

Android phones

Step 1: Turn on your phone's hotspot
  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & internet And then Hotspot & tetheringAnd then  Wi-Fi hotspot.
  3. Turn on Wi-Fi hotspot.
  4. To see or change a hotspot setting, like the name or password, tap it. If needed, first click Set up Wi-Fi hotspot.
Step 2: Connect another device to your phone's hotspot

On the device that you want to connect, go to the WiFi settings and look for your phone in the list. Then click the Wi-Fi network to join. If asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi hotspot.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see the option for Personal Hotspot (iOS) or Wi-Fi hotspot (Android), contact ITS Service Desk to make sure that you can use personal hotspot with the existing plan.
